I wanted to share with you a recipe and DIY gift idea. I was recently introduced to a "soup in a bag" craft that make the greatest "little" gifts for teachers, neighbors, etc. Or just have them on hand for a quick and easy dinner idea.
Chicken Noodle Soup (in a bag)
Ingredients for the layered soup mix:
¼ cup lentils
2 tbsp. dried onion flakes
1 ½ tablespoons chicken bouillon granules
½ tsp. dried dill weed or dill seed
1/8 tsp celery seed
1/8 tsp garlic powder
approximately 1 cup medium egg noodles
1 bay leaf
*Layer all ingredients as listed above into a medium sized bakers decorating bag. Use a twist tie to seal.
Tie off with decorative ribbon!
*Print out a gift tag and include the following cooking instructions:
Bring 8 cups of water to boil in large saucepan. Stir in soup mix. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 25 minutes. Discard bay leaf and stir in 1½ cups of mixed vegtables and 2 cups of cooked, diced chicken or turkey. Simmer for five minutes until vegetables are tender and chicken is heated through.
There has been a winter chill here in California the past few days, and this soup was the perfect treat that warmed the soul! Enjoy!
